view in the dark
yesterday, i was very lucky to meet up with flickr user kazunori yokoi who is visiting athens from kyoto, japan. we had a tasty lunch at avissinia, wandered around for a few pictures at monastiraki and finished with an ice coffee at an outdoor cafe under the acropolis in plaka.
i saw this old typewriter outside a shop just across our table and i couldn't resist attempting a shoot. kazu didn't mind.

embiggen
in front of a kiosk in athens. i think the mirror was placed by the kiosk's owner so he could see who's approaching. i liked the lineup of greek newspapers and the 'the ministry of health warns that smoking can be hazardous to your health' warning on top.
i shot this with my 350D after i dropped off my 40D at the doctor's. you may be happy to know that it's back home and feeling fine.

my favorite photographers: piriskoskis.

this is a relatively new discovery for me, but after seeing his first images recently, i've been consistently blown away... figures against structures, gentle curves or sharp angles, black and white or color pops, all with a style that screams awareness.

memories are so.
so sharp they rip through our well-planned pace
but others
blurred in motion, dissolved in time
the bits we neglected
but they set the stage
and conveyed the substance
we discovered tiny wonders
became one with a color
floated into a flavor
tingled with words and art
scampered with best friends,
long lost
now conclusions
in a memoir, yearning to be written
merged with paper
... or denied
theresa's work speaks for itself, but it made me want to say something, too.
such is art, especially from one who is so multi-talented, it flows through her life like a strand... or a thread of wool.

my favorite photographers: anthony ayiomamitis
i discovered anthony ayiomamitis' work several years ago and have been an enthusiastic fan ever since, to the point of creating a dedicated label for posts which feature his pictures. his imagery includes highly challenging objects such as galaxies, nebulas, quasars and black holes... but the ones i love best are the ones that are readily accessible by anyone, in the sense that they are visible with the naked eye, such as shots of the moon and the sun, eclipses and the milky way -- and most especially when they are combined with landmarks of human heritage.

anthony has inspired me to try my hand at this type of photography -- at the most rudimentary level. @anthony: thank you!

'there is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.'
