VOTD: LA Wildfire Time Lapse from Elysian Park
It has nearly been a month since the outbreak of the massive fire in Los Angeles. Here is a rather interesting time lapse capture of the smoke and flames as seen from Elysian Park, which is somewhat reminiscent of Koyaanisqatsi or Baraka.

Speaking of fire...

VOTD: Peter Fox, who? Peter Fox you!
VIDEOS OF THE DAY
During my sessions yesterday, Mark Miller, the Steel Guitarists that David brought to the studio, showed us the following videos. I was impressed with the first one... the second one might even be better!!!
Peter Fox is a German artist who combines many styles.
Please check the amazingly synchronized drum core at the end of the 1st video! I am SERIOUS here.... make sure to watch both videos... at least enough to get the idea... dark powerful orchestral strokes, marching and groovy drums, moving bass and excellently crafted videos with snazzy tunes!
Reminder: check the amazingly synchronized drum core at the end of the video!
If you are in Hollywood or near:

VOTD: Birds on Wires photo becomes MUSIC
Jarbas Agnelli saw the following photo of birds on wires in a newspaper. He cut out the picture and created a song using the birds as notes. The video featured is what transpired.
"Reading a newspaper, I saw a picture of birds on the electric wires. I cut out the photo and decided to make a song, using the exact location of the birds as notes (no Photoshop edit). I knew it wasn't the most original idea in the universe. I was just curious to hear what melody the birds were creating."

VOTD: Annie Lennox all over the place
This is what happens when San Francisco mashup artist, DJ EARWORM, blends hits of Annie Lennox's solo career.
He writes,
"I’ve always held a deep respect for Annie Lennox and her music, so when she gave me her multi-track masters to mash up, I was thrilled," he writes on his blog. "The task was to tie together all of her solo career into single song and video, and I could deconstruct it as much as I wanted! Woohoo!"
Songs included:
"Why"
"Walking on Broken Glass"
"Little Bird"
"No More I Love You's"
"Waiting in Vain"
"Something So Right"
"Dark Road"
"Sing"
"Shining Light"

VOTD: Bat For Lashes - Sleep Alone
I was a HUGE HUGE fan and supporter of Natasha Khan's first BAT FOR LASHES album, "Fur & Gold".
Since the release of the follow-up album, "Two Suns", last year, I have not really been a big fan of the direction... or lack. I do, like this song, "Sleep Alone" and the video too, however, it is very similar to a mix of songs from "Fur & Gold", especially the vibe of "Trophy", which I have posted below.
Enjoy and sleep well... I shall report about my day tomorrow and broadcast news about my DJ gig this Thursday at Kung Pao Kitty. Good night!

VOTD: Web Site Story (West Side Story)
VOTD: Wildwood, NJ, The Movie
Growing up on the east coast, in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia, the coast line was less than an hour away. Atlantic City, New Jersey was the spot in the 70s and early 80s.
This place was known as a mini-Vegas, "down the shore", with the boardwalk smell I can still recall decades later. As the 80s were nearing the 90s, the boardwalk amusement parks closed including Steeplechase, Million Dollar Pier (where Handcuff King, Harry Houdini, performed a stunt) and Steel Pier. Atlantic City became more of the gambling town, less about the kids. The Miss America Pageant remained, however, the even seedier parts of "the shore", became the place where the youth would cruise.
Ocean City was the nicer version, but we will focus on Wildwood!
This was the cake! The Seedy Cake! If you wanted to see wacky hair, fashion and lots and lots of drunk, stoned folks, many girls with hair teased nearly a foot tall and fellows without shirts, ripped jeans with combs in the back pockets, this was the place. Sometimes you found other punk/ alternative folks, but mostly it was a slightly "different crowd".
Morey's Pier & Mariner Landing!!! I can hear the commercial for these amusement parks right now! Actually, load this page for Morey's Piers and just keep it in the background for the audio as the soundtrack to this post. It will make the next paragraph much more vivid.
I do miss the aroma of the salty Atlantic ocean mixed with sun cooked sand, the distant smell of ice cream and cold treats brought by the ice-cream guy, the peanut/ nut stores, cotton candy, pizza, Curly's Fries, bumper cars' burnt rubber (or whatever that was), Salt Water Taffy and Fudge, seagull crap, smoking tobacco and alcohol. Maybe I do not miss all of that. Oddly enough, it has been a long enough time now, that I almost even miss the sound of the infamous boardwalk tram alert which was repeated in place of a horn which reiterated, "Watch The Tram Car, Please!".
So this brings us to today's video which was prompted by seeing a posting from Sarah Lane regarding a clip from Ruthless Films called "Wildwood: The Movie".
Hair, Nails, "Fashion", Dialect, & Mustaches, Oh my!
This girl, "Jana", at 40 seconds into the video, must have been huffing the Nestle Strawberry Quick mix! What do you think?
"It's diff'rnt ev'ry night... n ev'ry night it's diff'rnt!"
More info here and here.

Unrelated: We are gathering more Zombies and folks with cameras for the Zombie Dance routine at Midnight night for First Fridays at Medusa Lounge if you want to join or know someone who may. This is going to be fun!

VOTD: Fever Ray - Triangle Walks
The syndication of this blog has once again jumped, expanding to a few new places, so for those of you new to these posts, often you will find a new Video Of The Day featuring short clips, trailers, music videos, oddities or "insightful" news.
Today's video comes from Karin Dreijer Andersson of The Knife. I posted her first video at the start of the year in this earlier post.
"Triangle Walks", her third single, is a dark video with blasts of color with close imagery and the music, if you are unfamiliar with Fever Ray, is a fusion of downtempo, synths brewing an ambiance atop familiar grooves and layers with instruments and additional voices of the tribal world variety.
Enjoy "Triangle Walks" by Fever Ray
Catch Fever Ray on tour this Summer and if you reside in the states, she will be here for Autumn.
Additional note: I am planning to attend my friend Kelly Ogden's Rollerskating Bday party at The Echoplex at The Echo this evening... Should be interesting to roll all over a concert venue!
Have a great day!
