5. Walter Matthau in Kotch- This performance really is nothing but smiles, and sunshine. There is nothing to really note here except that he really is not particularly believable as an old man.

1. Gene Hackman in The French Connection- Hackman gives a commanding interesting memorable performance. I thoroughly enjoy every moment of Hackman's performance and I especially found his portrait of the obsession of the narcotics detective particularly powerful and effective.
